Hello all, Recently retired Portlander and getting into blacksmithing. In a younger life and I welded and fabbed a lot so kind of familiar with metal. I had never actually blacksmithed though. After taking a local beginners course I am hooked. My Majestic forge arrives on weds!! I found a piece of 175 CR ( 175lbs/yd crane rail) at a local steel yard that weighs 87.4 pounds and will use that as an anvil until I get going better. I found a local fab shop that sells remnants for .75/lb and have been able to find some good stock there. I ordered a set of quick tongs from Ken’s Custom Iron and anxiously await the forge so I can get going… Great info here…
