I would like to get into blacksmithing. I have some questions about homemade gas forges. I have been looking at plans on line and they seem a bit complex. For burners could the soldering tips that go on bottles of propane be used? Or will they not get hot enough? I would eventually like to make a sword and/or machetes, how big of a forge should I look to make? Also are fire bricks sufficient as insulation?
I had to build my own torch. Otc torches hardly even got a glow on 1/4" round stock in my coffee can forge. They aren’t hard to build and if your wanting to do swords you’ll need a long foge for heat treating. Jme
